I recently had the extreme pleasure to interview an author who is rapidly becoming one of my favorites, Vaun Murphrey, author of the Weaver Series (Chimera, Changeling, Vector, and Phoenix).
Without further adieu, here is my interview with Vaun Murphrey.
SGR: How long did it take to come up with the characters for the Weaver series?
VM: They didn’t all come about at the same time. The first to show up were Cass, Gerome, James and Maggie. As I wrote they grew. Character sketches aren’t a practice of mine.
SGR: How did you come up with Cass/Silver?
VM: That is an interesting question. As I wrote, Silver just showed up. I was as surprised as Cass was. Silver wasn’t in the plan as far as I knew when CHIMERA began. Then the relationship became similar in some ways to my own with my older sister, Melissa.
SGR: The Axsian language is very interesting – what inspired it?
VM: I can’t take credit for Axsa’s dialect – it’s Old English. A few words were made up but the majority are real, if no longer in use.
SGR: Is Phoenix the final book in the Weaver Series or are there more to come?
VM: I plan on two more books. DESCENT is the fifth and the sixth has no name. Axsa’s definitely in the picture again. Earth really needs to sort itself out as well. Several things will fall in line, one of them won’t be Silver, that woman is a mess!
SGR: What is your favorite book from the series and which character is your favorite?
VM: CHANGELING is my personal favorite. Kal is kind, mysterious and a good surrogate father for the girls. He truly loves them.
SGR: Do you have any new books, Weaver Series or otherwise, coming out soon?
VM: I’ve just finished the first book in a new series called THE BLOOD KEY. I’m trying my hand at illustrations and character sketches with this one. It’s exciting to build new rules for new worlds. Here is the back jacket blurb:
Bozena (Zena) Skala, the Wanderer.
Zena Skala is committed to an insane asylum as a young girl after the unexplained disappearance of her half-brother and the assumption of his death. At eighteen, the authorities, with some nudging from her now available counsel, deem Zena lucid enough for release. Her step-mother, Rowena will gift the Skala Estate to Zena with one non-negotiable condition – she never wants to see her step-daughter again.
On the way to her childhood home Zena accidentally interrupts a robbery, saving the life of one of her missing brother’s friends, Dominic Vargas. Unwanted attention from the police and media ensues. Zena flees to the Estate in hopes of living life on her terms and to find answers in the memories of her past.
Secrets await in her family home. Some more dangerous than others…See where else Author Vaun Murphrey can transport you in Book One of The Wander Series.
About the Author
Vaun Murphrey lives in Lubbock, Texas with her husband, two sons and a shaggy black and white four-legged friend. Her life is composed of one ordinary day after another, at least from the outside – on the inside she travels to different worlds. If Vaun ever seems distracted, now you know why… be patient, she returns on a regular basis to visit Earth.
I would like to thank Vaun Murphrey for taking the time to answer my questions! I look forward to the release of The Blood Key as well as Descent and the as-yet-untitled sixth Weaver Series book!
